JUST PRUNIN’ IN THE RAIN!!

By Jill | February 25th, 2011

On Wednesday 23rd February – 15 brave souls came to the nursery on one of the wettest days so far this year!!

It is just typical of our great British weather that the only wet day of the week was going to be the one that we had arranged a pruning course on!!    The pruning courses are always our most popular – and the weather was not going to deter this lot!!    It lashed down for most of the first part of the course – but we had been kind and erected a couple of ‘gazebo tents’ up in the orchard – so at least – for the most part – the course attendees were dry – even if I got drenched doing the pruning demo!!   It did let up a bit later – but the whole thing was a decidedly damp affair!

Every so often a great torrent of water would shoot off the roof of the tents – and pour down – it caused a great deal of humour when it missed me by inches on several occasions!    You really think only in England could such a thing happen – and people actually pay for the pleasure of getting cold and wet!!

On a lighter note – the last few days have been just lovely – temperatures have shot up to 14c – and the plants are most definitely responding.

But – a word of caution – and a reminder – TIME FOR PLANTING BARE-ROOT HEDGING AND BARE-ROOT FRUIT TREES IS COMING TO AN END – YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW MORE WEEKS TO GET THE JOB DONE – DO NOT DELAY!!!

UNTIL THE NEXT TIME,

RICHARD

A HECTIC WEEK

By Jill | February 19th, 2011

The end of a hectic week here at Crown Nursery – as well as masses of customers buying BARE-ROOT HEDGING  – we have had the fun of roadworks at the top of the nursery drive.   This has been interesting since we have had several delivery lorries in – which have caused the men to move their traffic cones several times!! IT’S FEBRUARY – AND THE PACE QUICKENS!

By Jill | February 11th, 2011

Into the final month of winter – yes I know that winter is far from over – but spring is now in sight!   This week at the nursery has seen just about every kind of weather possible – from blue skies on Tuesday  – to gale-force winds and heavy rain!!

But the most important thing is that it is MILD  – is this the end of winter as so many of the long-range forecasts suggest – or is there another sting in the tail??

One thing is certain though – and that is that everybody is MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME – and planting like crazy.   We have been rushed off our feet this week with orders and sales.  If it is going to be an early spring – then you need to make sure you get all your BARE-ROOT HEDING IN ASAP.    We will be sold out before not too much longer – and the same goes for many of our fruit trees  – – so if you are thinking of planting a new hedge or fruit trees in the next few weeks – DO NOT DELAY – OTHERWISE YOU WILL MISS OUT!!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

RICHARD
