BARE-ROOT FRUIT TREES NOW AVAILABLE

By Jill | November 24th, 2011

It has taken a while – but we now have our new stock of bare-root fruit trees ready for sale. The incredibly mild weather has meant that the leaves have been late falling-off and the dry weather has meant that the ground has been hard so lifting has been difficult!!  And this time last year we were under snow!!   Ha!!  Ha!!

We have some very nice PLUMS –  VICTORIA,MARJORIE’S SEEDLING,OPAL,CZAR and COE’S GOLDEN DROP.    These are all stocky half-standard trees @ £28.00 each – we also have GREENGAGES – OULINS GOLDEN GAGE,OLD ENGLISH GAGE and CAMBRIDGE GAGE.     And DAMSONS MERRYWEATHER and FARLEIGH’S PROLIFIC.

On the Pear front – we have CONFERENCE,CONCORDE, WILLIAMS BON CHRETIEN, DOYENNE DU COMICE,LOUISE BONNE OF JERSEY, PACKHAM’S TRIUMPH and ONWARDS – again all half-standards @ £28.00.

Quinces have become very popular lately – so we also have some extremely nice bushy trees of  VRANJA, EARLY PROLIFIC and CHAMPION – again all half-standards @ £28.00.

These are all lovely trees – and the warm ground is excellent for planting at the moment.

Our BARE-ROOT HEDGING and SOFT FRUIT  is slowly coming in – but we still do not have everything – so please BE PATIENT with us – we will send orders out in rotation as soon as we can.

This week has also seen our MAIL-ORDER season start – so if you have ordered trees from us and are not local we will be in contact with you very shortly regarding delivery of your order – and alternatively if you like what you see on this site – but are not in Suffolk – we can send many of our plants via a courier service – so again check out our catalogues for the full info.

There – that’s about the sum of it – at the moment – but watch this space – something new arrives every day!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

RICHARD

BLUEBERRY BUSHES NOW IN STOCK!!

Hello – our new-season stock is now starting to arrive – and the first of these are some superb quality Blueberry plants.

They are nicely-branched 2-year-old bushes in 4 litre pots @ £12.50 each.

They even have bit of red and orange autumn colour – these still remain one of the most sought-after plants in the fruit world – so if you are after one for autumn planting or for growing in a container – come down to the nursery and see us – we only have a limited number available!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

SMOKY DAYS

By Jill | November 12th, 2011

Hello – wow how warm it is at the moment!   The nursery staff have all been in shirtsleeves this week – incredible when you think it is the second week of November!

The temperature may be warm but the days are short – and light levels poor – we can no longer work much outside after 4pm – and Monday and Tuesday this week it felt as though someone had forgotten to turn the lights on!!   It was just so dark and cloudy – but incredibly mild!

This weather is causing us some headaches though – we are still waiting for our bare-root hedging and fruit trees to come in – the mild weather is delaying leaf-fall and that means the plants will be slightly later to arrive this year – please do bear with us – and keep an eye on the blog to see when everything becomes available.   The plants are also very confused – we have several apple trees with blossom on – and that is without the leaves  – so very strange times.

The latest long-range forecasts are apparently suggesting no cold weather this side of Christmas -so thankfully  it seems that a repeat of last year’s vicious frosts in November is unlikely – but don’t shoot the messenger if it proves wrong!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

RICHARD

THE PLANTING SEASON IS HERE!

By Jill | November 4th, 2011

Hello – at last we have had some decent rainfall – so the ground is now in a fit state to plant.  The autumn colour is at it’s peak – and the ground is still warm after the summer – so anything planted now will root quickly and establish before the worst of the winter weather.

The dry weather has delayed the lifting of bare-root stock though – and we will not have hedging, soft fruit or bare-root fruit trees available for a few more weeks – so do be patient!!!  You are of course welcome to pre-order these items to ensure you get what you want!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

RICHARD
