NEW SPECIMEN STOCK NOW IN

By Jill | September 29th, 2012

Autumn seems to have arrived this week – the temperatures have dropped   – and we have had a very welcome period of rain – over an inch at the nursery this week.  Autumn colour is starting to seep into the leaves – it is a really lovely time of year.

Also arriving at the nursery this week has been a large lorry stuffed with all sorts of plant goodies!!   Our specimen area is now restocked – and bulging at the seams with new plants!  From Bamboos to Conifers to Evergreen shrubs for screening – we have a good range of plants available now.

As we move further into autumn – the apple harvest picks up speed.  Currently in the Apple Shed available for tasting  we have Baker’s Delicious,Charles Ross, Greensleeves,Grenadier, James Grieve, Norfolk Royal, Rev.W Wilks, Sunset and Tydemans Early Worcester.

We are gearing up for our biggest event of the year – Apple Day 2012 is on Saturday October 20th.  It will be a great day – hope to see you there!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

A BUSY WEEK!

By Jill | September 14th, 2012

Another very busy week on the nursery.  We have had lots of visitors in to see us – some from quite a distance.  We really do appreciate all your kind comments on how good the nursery looks – it does make all the hard work worthwhile!!

This week has also seen one of our larger polytunnels re-roofed.  This is quite a business – with the windy weather – and we were very fortunate in having an excellent team of professionals in to do the job for us.   Some of the sales areas are a little disturbed because of it – but we are getting things back to normal as fast as possible!

This Sunday – we have a stand at the Autumn Plant Heritage Sale at Helmingham Hall – this is a great day out for plant-a-holics – and is stuffed full of great plants.  Do come along and say hello.

AN INDIAN SUMMER?

By Jill | September 8th, 2012

What a lovely week!!   Blue skies – sun – it really has been a pleasure to work outside over the last few days.  Settled weather has allowed the farmers to push on with their harvest – and the sun shining makes the nursery look so much better!

It has been a busy week on the nursery – we are now seeing a lot of people coming in beginning to plan their autumn planting schemes.  Autumn is nature’s time to plant – the soil is warm and in October and November – hopefully we will also get some rain – newly-planted trees and shrubs will put on a great deal of root before the cold of winter arrives.

Also on the nursery this week – many of the cuttings taken earlier in the summer have rooted really well – and are now being potted up for sale next spring.  We have also had two new people with us – Anthony has been with us on Work Experience – and we hope he had an enjoyable week – and saw a taster of the working life!   Also we extend a warm welcome to Kate – who has joined the nursery team.

The apple-picking season is slowly building pace – and in the Apple Tasting Shed at the moment are Baker’s Delicious, Discovery and Tydeman’s Early Worcester.  Surely one of the best parts of September is the ripening of fruit – it just seem’s to suggest the climax of the year – and the turning of the season.

UNTIL NEXT TIME,
