What an incredible week on the weather front yet again!  From 23C early in the week – we all cracked the shorts out – now we are down to 12C and all wrapped up in the wax coats again!

The plants just do not know what to make of it – let alone the staff!  It has been a crazy week – we are now on the very last of the bare-root hedging and fruit trees – they are unlikely to be available much longer – so you need to plant NOW if you are going to do any this spring.

We have also had a huge lorry full of plants to restock our sales areas – and we now have some lovely stuff – from bamboos to conifers to shrubs for screening – our specimen sales area is stuffed to bursting point – so do come down to the nursery and see what we have to offer.

And finally – we would like to extend a warm welcome to Michael – who has recently joined us on an apprenticeship scheme – we hope we don’t frighten him off!!

One of the few advantages of the arctic spring we are experiencing  – probably the only advantage – is that we are still able to offer our bare-root hedging and trees for planting much longer than normal.

This time last year – all of our bare-root plants had long gone since they were all in leaf – but due to the extreme cold – they are all still very dormant – allowing us gardeners to get on and get planting!!

The soil has dried out quite a bit this week in that wretched North-East wind – so planting conditions are as good as they have been all winter!!   We still have a limited stock of bare-root hedging – and there are still some of our fantastic quality bare-root fruit and ornamental trees available – so why not make the most of this extra opportunity and get some of these in the ground!!

Often described as the ‘Queen of Vegetables’ – Asparagus is one of those desirable things that are jolly expensive to buy!  So why not have a go at growing your own!!

We now have available bare-root quality crowns of Backlim – one of the most reliable new F1 varieties – these are always very popular so we will not have them available for very long. We will also soon have the early variety Gijnlim – so with the two grown together – you can extend your asparagus season for as long as possible!!

Now there’s something to look forward too!!
