BARE-ROOT HEDGING PLANTS NOW AVAILABLE

By Jill | November 30th, 2013

Our bare-root hedging plants are now available.  We apologise for the delay – but leaf-fall is late this year – so lifting has been delayed.  If you have already placed an order with us – then please be patient – we are ploughing through a backlog of hundreds of orders – and we will contact you when your plants are ready.

If you have not placed an order with us – we do have a limited range of plants pre-lifted at the nursery – however if you require a large quantity of hedging – PLEASE DO RING US AND ORDER IT. We like to lift plants to order – to maintain freshness – so if you know what you want – ring us – and let us know when you would like your plants and we can collate your order for you.

BLUEBERRY AND BLACKCURRANT PLANTS NOW AVAILABLE

By Jill | November 22nd, 2013

Our Blueberry plants are now on sale  – they are nice stocky bushes in 4 litre pots – full of autumn colour – and with flower buds set for next spring. We have two varieties – Bluecrop  and Patriot. These two varieties will give a season of cropping from July to late August.

If you have never grown Blueberries before – why not give them a try – they make excellent subjects for containers – especially if your soil is not acidic.

Attractive flowers, excellent fruit and the bonus of red and orange autumn colour – what more could you ask of a shrub?

We also have the first of our bare-root soft fruit available – Blackcurrant Ben Connan – this is one of the more modern types with huge crops of succulent berries  – on a relatively compact disease-resistant bush.  The rest of our bare-root fruit will come on stream towards the end of next week.

UNTIL THEN,

RICHARD

NATIONAL TREE WEEK – NOV 23RD – DEC 1ST

By Jill | November 22nd, 2013

This is the perfect time of the year to plant a tree.

The leaves are falling  – but while the soil remains warm before winter truly sets in – new white roots will grow – and the tree will be well-established by spring ready to grow away. Add to that – we are approaching National Tree Week – and there really is no excuse not to get out there – and plant a piece of living history!!

LIFE AFTER THE STORM

By Jill | November 2nd, 2013

What a week!  They told us it was coming – the weather forecasts were very accurate.  We thought that we had escaped it – but between 8.30am and 9.30 on Monday October 28th – Storm St Jude tore through Crown Nursery leaving a trail of havoc and destruction in it’s wake.

Windy days on tree nurseries are never much fun, but gusts of up to 80mph caused severe damage to our tunnels and tree stock areas.  It will take us weeks to clear the mess up – and even longer to re-roof the tunnels.  Four days without power did not help – no heat, no light  -no telephone lines –  it has been an interesting experience!!

But we battle on – because you simply have to – we have already made significant repairs – and will continue to do so – but it is a sharp reminder that the force and power of nature –  remains ready to unleash itself at any time.

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

RICHARD
